A. R. Rahman is set to make history with his first-ever live performance in Rajasthan, as he prepares to present a specially curated Sufi ensemble at the JECC Grounds in Jaipur on April 18. The Academy Award-winning composer’s upcoming concert is expected to reflect the deeply spiritual dimension of his musical journey and marks a significant milestone in his live performance career.
According to an NDTV Good Times press release, the Jaipur concert follows the resounding success of Rahman’s Delhi performance last December and represents his debut appearance in Rajasthan, despite performing widely across India and at some of the world’s most prestigious venues. The selection of a Sufi repertoire for the event carries special meaning, given the state’s strong devotional heritage and Rahman’s long-standing spiritual association with Ajmer Sharif Dargah.
Unlike mainstream film-driven concerts, Rahman’s Sufi performances are known for their expansive and immersive format. Built around layered orchestration, powerful live vocals and carefully crafted arrangements, these concerts offer audiences a reflective and emotionally engaging musical experience. The Jaipur performance is expected to blend musical precision with emotional depth, moving seamlessly between celebration and spiritual reverence.
Speaking about the significance of the event, Rahul Kanwal, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of NDTV, described Rahman’s Sufi repertoire as among the most profound work of his career. He noted that bringing this experience to Rajasthan for the first time makes the concert both culturally significant and musically extraordinary.
The Delhi edition of the tour demonstrated the scale and demand for Rahman’s live performances, drawing strong audience response for its production quality and the breadth of musical renditions. Jaipur is now preparing for what is expected to be one of the city’s most anticipated live music events this year.
Adding to the excitement, Rahul Shaw, Chief Experiences Officer at NDTV, called Rahman’s debut in Rajasthan a landmark moment, stating that the April 18 concert will offer Jaipur audiences the opportunity to experience the composer in one of his most powerful artistic formats — live Sufi music.
With Rahman’s first-ever Rajasthan performance approaching, anticipation is building across the region. The concert is expected to attract audiences from across the state and beyond, positioning the evening as a major cultural event where musical scale, spirituality and artistic mastery come together on one stage. Tickets for the event are currently available online.
