Shemaroo Entertainment has partnered with Cubes Entertainment for the worldwide digital and satellite distribution of the upcoming Malayalam action thriller ‘Kattalan’, further strengthening its presence in the global content syndication business.
The film, which is slated for a theatrical release on May 28, is being positioned as a large-scale pan-India action spectacle with strong appeal across regional and international markets.
According to a Shemaroo Entertainment press release, the partnership is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand the reach of Indian stories across geographies and platforms. Shemaroo has been actively growing its syndication business and recently handled the worldwide distribution of Malayalam blockbuster ‘Lokah’, reinforcing its focus on taking regional cinema to global audiences.
Produced by Shareef Muhammed under the banner of Cubes Entertainment, ‘Kattalan’ arrives with significant expectations following the success of ‘Marco’, which emerged as a Rs.100-crore global blockbuster and expanded the reach of Malayalam cinema beyond traditional markets. The makers are now hoping to build on that momentum with a bigger and more ambitious cinematic offering.
Set against the backdrop of illegal ivory trafficking networks, ‘Kattalan’ explores a dangerous world of crime, power struggles, and survival. The story unfolds across dense forests, rugged red-soil landscapes, bustling harbours, and international routes extending to Sri Lanka. As long-buried secrets begin to emerge, the narrative follows a brutal conflict where dominance and survival become intertwined, creating a visually intense and emotionally charged thriller.
The film is directed by Paul George and features an ensemble cast led by Antony Varghese, Suneel, Dushara Vijayan, and Kabir Duhan Singh. Adding to its scale is the music composed by Ravi Basrur, known for his work on ‘KGF’ and ‘Marco’, along with B. Ajaneesh Loknath of ‘Kantara’ fame. The makers believe the film’s technical strengths and action-packed storytelling will help it resonate with audiences across languages and regions.

Commenting on the partnership, Nishith Varshneya, Head – International Business & India, Digital Syndication at Shemaroo Entertainment, said the company’s syndication strategy is focused on expanding the reach of compelling stories across different markets and platforms. He noted that ‘Kattalan’ represents a natural extension of that vision and combines scale, strong storytelling, and a narrative capable of travelling beyond regional boundaries.
Producer Shareef Muhammed said that after the success of ‘Marco’, the team wanted to create a bigger cinematic experience with ‘Kattalan’. He added that the film has been mounted on a grand scale and features a story with universal appeal, making the collaboration with Shemaroo an important step in reaching audiences worldwide.
With its expansive setting, action-driven narrative, and pan-Indian ambitions, ‘Kattalan’ is emerging as one of the notable Malayalam releases of the season. The film’s combination of high-stakes drama, intense action sequences, and strong production values is expected to attract audiences not only in Kerala but also across the broader Indian and international markets.
