‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ has emerged as Hollywood’s highest-grossing film of 2026 so far, collecting an impressive USD 629 million at the global box office and continuing its strong run across international markets.
According to an ANI report, the film has maintained steady momentum worldwide and is now inching closer to the USD 1 billion milestone. Trade estimates suggest it could face competition from upcoming big-ticket releases such as ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, ‘The Odyssey’, ‘Toy Story 5’, and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ in the weeks ahead.
Following its theatrical debut, the film delivered a strong performance internationally, earning USD 83.5 million from 81 territories in its initial phase. So far, it has generated USD 320 million from overseas markets, while its domestic earnings in North America have reached USD 308 million, reflecting balanced traction across regions.
The film builds on the massive success of its predecessor, ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, which had grossed USD 1.3 billion globally and became one of the biggest hits of 2023. The latest instalment continues the franchise’s momentum, expanding its storytelling into a space-themed adventure.
Featuring voices of Chris Pratt and Charlie Day as Mario and Luigi, the film also sees the return of Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. New additions include Donald Glover as Yoshi, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., and Brie Larson as Rosalina.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the sequel follows Mario and Luigi as they venture into outer space alongside Princess Peach and Toad, further expanding the universe of the globally loved franchise. The film is produced by Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto.
With its current pace and sustained audience interest, ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ is well-positioned to remain a dominant force at the global box office in the coming weeks.
