Platform 8 has announced the launch of its upcoming Bengali web series ‘Ichchepuran’, set to premiere on April 10, 2026, marking the festive occasion of Poila Boishakh. Directed by Haranath Chakraborty, the series explores the complex interplay between desire, destiny, and moral choices, offering a narrative that is both engaging and introspective.
According to a Telegraph report, the show aims to present a story rooted in human emotions and ethical dilemmas, making it a fitting release for a festival that symbolises new beginnings. The concept and story have been developed by Iman Chakraborty, who drew inspiration from the way simple desires can sometimes spiral into life-altering consequences.
The series features an ensemble cast led by Debraj Bhattacharya as Apurba, alongside Ishani Sengupta as Aparna, with supporting performances by Korak Samanta, Shankar Debnath, and Pradip Bhattacharya. Together, they bring depth and authenticity to a story that delves into the fragile nature of human values when tested by temptation.
At the centre of ‘Ichchepuran’ is Apurba, a simple insurance agent whose life revolves around providing for his family. His routine existence takes a dramatic turn when he comes across a mysterious stone that appears to bring sudden fortune and prosperity. However, the newfound luck comes at a significant cost, pushing him into a moral conflict where he must choose between his principles and the pressures of reality.
The screenplay, written by Padmanabha Dasgupta, adds emotional depth to the narrative, focusing on characters that are flawed, vulnerable, and relatable. The storytelling weaves together elements of drama and the supernatural, creating a layered experience that resonates with audiences.
Speaking about the series, Priyanka Bardia of Platform 8 emphasised the platform’s focus on meaningful storytelling that goes beyond entertainment to spark reflection. Director Haranath Chakraborty also highlighted the emotional journey of the protagonist, while the lead actors described their roles as layered and intense, reflecting the complexities of relationships under strain.
Blending emotion, drama, and a touch of the extraordinary, ‘Ichchepuran’ is positioned as a thought-provoking offering that aligns with the spirit of Poila Boishakh, inviting viewers to reflect on choices, consequences, and the true cost of fulfilling one’s desires.
