National Geographic India has announced a new addition to its travel programming slate with ‘Postcards from Hong Kong’, a two-episode series hosted by actor Ridhi Dogra. The show premiered on March 28 at 8pm, offering viewers a layered exploration of one of Asia’s most dynamic cities.

As per a press release, the series is part of Nat Geo India’s new ‘Postcards’ format and is produced by National Geographic Creative Works. It presents Hong Kong through the lens of an Indian traveller, blending visual storytelling with personal experiences to go beyond the city’s well-known skyline and fast-paced urban life.

‘Postcards from Hong Kong’ captures both the energy and the quieter, lesser-seen aspects of the city. While it showcases iconic visuals such as the harbour and bustling streets, it also ventures into serene beaches, scenic hiking trails and immersive adventure experiences that challenge conventional perceptions of Hong Kong. The narrative also dives into Cantonese culture, highlighting local traditions, rituals and everyday life, as Ridhi Dogra connects with local influencers and guides along the way.

The first episode focuses on a more reflective journey, as Ridhi steps away from the rush of city life to explore destinations like Sai Kung, Big Wave Bay, Dragon’s Back, Tai O, Ngong Ping, Po Lin Monastery and the Tian Tan Buddha. Through these locations, the show presents a calmer, nature-driven side of Hong Kong, turning the episode into a parallel story of discovering the destination while also reconnecting with oneself.

In contrast, the second episode shifts to the vibrant and high-energy side of the city, capturing its popular and fast-moving character. With just 72 hours in hand, Ridhi explores areas such as Causeway Bay and Happy Valley Racecourse, along with Michelin-recognised dining spots and luxury shopping destinations like Landmark, presenting a snapshot of Hong Kong’s modern lifestyle.

Sharing her experience, Ridhi Dogra described the journey as deeply enriching, noting that the series goes beyond the obvious to uncover stories hidden in quieter corners of the city. She highlighted how the experience allowed her to connect with Hong Kong in a way that felt immersive and meaningful, from trekking through misty trails to understanding local traditions.

A spokesperson from National Geographic India said the intent behind the series was to explore the city through a more intimate and human lens, combining local insights with global storytelling. Echoing this, Puneet Kumar from the Hong Kong Tourism Board noted that the series presents a fresh and nuanced portrayal of the city, capturing its diversity through scenic landscapes, cultural depth and vibrant communities.

From witnessing the Symphony of Lights aboard Aqua Luna to indulging in local flavours, each experience in the series is framed as a “postcard moment,” blending travel, culture and personal storytelling. With its mix of visual richness and narrative depth, ‘Postcards from Hong Kong’ positions itself as a travel series that goes beyond sightseeing to capture the spirit of the destination.

The series is airing on National Geographic Channel and is also available for streaming on JioHotstar, extending its reach to a wider audience.
