Veteran Hollywood actor Jeff Daniels has joined the cast of the acclaimed Apple TV series ‘The Morning Show’ for its upcoming fifth season, adding another major name to the star-studded drama.
According to a report by PTI, the 70-year-old actor will portray Lukas, the billionaire founder of an investment company. The casting marks the latest addition to the ensemble of the popular streaming series, which has built a reputation for attracting high-profile performers.
Daniels joins a cast that already features Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass and Jon Hamm. The show, which explores the behind-the-scenes world of television news and media power dynamics, has become one of the flagship dramas on Apple TV.
Season five is expected to continue the story after the dramatic developments of the previous season. The last instalment saw Witherspoon’s character Bradley detained in Belarus, while several characters exposed a senior UBN executive involved in a major cover-up. The unfolding events created new tensions and alliances within the network, setting the stage for the next chapter of the series.
Showrunner Charlotte Stoudt has previously indicated that the upcoming season will further explore the evolving relationship between Bradley and Cory, the character played by Billy Crudup. Their complicated dynamic has been one of the central emotional threads of the show in recent seasons.
The series continues to be led behind the scenes by Stoudt as showrunner and executive producer, while Mimi Leder serves as director and executive producer. Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer are executive producers for the studio Media Res.
In addition, Reese Witherspoon executive produces the show alongside Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, while Jennifer Aniston and Kristin Hahn serve as executive producers for Echo Films. Zander Lehmann and Micah Schraft are also part of the executive producing team.
Daniels is widely recognised for his acclaimed performances in television, film and theatre. He has won two Primetime Emmy Awards for his work in the HBO drama ‘The Newsroom’ and the Netflix limited series ‘Godless’.
