The BAFTA award-winning film ‘Boong’, directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, is set to release in theatres on March 6, actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar announced on Friday.
According to a PTI report, the film narrates a touching story of a young boy from the valley of Manipur and marks Devi’s directorial debut. The project has generated attention for its emotional narrative and international recognition, having received a BAFTA honour.
The film follows the journey of a young boy named ‘Boong’, portrayed by Gugun Kipgen, who plans to surprise his mother with a special gift. Set against the backdrop of Manipur’s scenic valley, the story explores themes of innocence, love and resilience through the child’s heartfelt mission.
The project is backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under their production banner Excel Entertainment. The makers have described the film as a deeply moving narrative that highlights emotional bonds and human strength through a simple yet powerful storyline.
Akhtar shared the announcement on his social media handles along with the film’s poster, revealing the release date. “A journey of innocence, love and resilience. Witness India’s first BAFTA Award-winning film, in cinemas on 6th March,” read the caption accompanying the post.
With its theatrical release now confirmed, ‘Boong’ is expected to bring an emotionally rich cinematic experience to audiences, combining a poignant narrative with a strong focus on relationships and personal courage.
