News India Chairman Shailendra Sharma has resigned from his post owning responsibility for irregularities perpetuated by his colleagues, the channel said in an official statement.
According to the statement, dated February 26, Sharma decided to step down from his position as Chairman of News India 24×7, explaining the reasons behind his resignation. He said that certain individuals who had been entrusted with various responsibilities in the TV channel’s operations were found to have committed irregularities and lapses.
Sharma, according to the statement issued by the TV channel’s parent company, acknowledged that placing excessive trust in those individuals was a key factor behind the situation.
Sharma had been overseeing the TV channel’s operations for nearly 14 months and had made continuous efforts during this period to strengthen the organisation. In view of the current circumstances, he decided to relieve himself of the responsibilities of the Chairman’s post.
The statement said that a new and suitable individual would soon be assigned the responsibility of Chairman to ensure that the channel’s functioning becomes more transparent and robust.
It added that Sharma would continue to be associated with the channel in the role of a patron, offering guidance and support in the interest of the organisation. The organisation also expressed gratitude for Sharma’s contributions.
