‘Zootopia 2’ has won the Best Animated Film honour at the BAFTA Awards, celebrating its message of embracing differences and inclusivity. The award at the 79th edition of the ceremony was accepted by co-creator Jared Bush and producer Yvett Merino, who acknowledged the contribution of the production team, voice cast and Walt Disney Animation Studios.
According to a report by UNI, Bush became emotional during his acceptance speech while reflecting on the film’s central theme of celebrating diversity. He said the film aimed to convey that differences should not be viewed as problems but as strengths that can create something meaningful and positive for the world.
Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, the film continues the adventures of rabbit police officer Judy Hopps, voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, and con artist fox Nick Wilde, voiced by Jason Bateman. In the sequel, the duo reunite to investigate a mysterious reptilian resident, voiced by Ke Huy Quan, taking audiences through a fresh mystery while reinforcing themes of acceptance and unity.
The BAFTA ceremony also saw ‘One Battle After Another’ emerge as the biggest winner of the night, securing six awards including Best Film and Best Director. The film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, follows a group of former revolutionaries who reunite to rescue a comrade’s daughter after an old enemy resurfaces. Its ensemble cast includes Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall and Teyana Taylor.
The film led the nominations with 14 nods, just short of the record set by ‘Gandhi’, and was streamed live on Lionsgate Play. With 13 nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards, the film is also expected to be a strong contender in major categories.
The recognition for ‘Zootopia 2’ at the BAFTA Awards underscores the continued global appeal of animated storytelling that blends entertainment with meaningful social themes, highlighting the power of cinema to address contemporary issues while engaging audiences worldwide.
