Telugu superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni has locked the Sankranthi 2027 festive window for his next film, with Annapurna Studios officially announcing January 15, 2027, as the release date. While details related to the film’s title, cast and technical crew remain under wraps, the early date announcement has already sparked strong interest within the industry and among fans.
According to a UNI report, Sankranthi remains one of the most competitive and sought-after release periods in Telugu cinema, traditionally reserved for star-driven, big-budget films. Nagarjuna’s decision to announce the release nearly two years in advance has added to the buzz, especially as multiple high-profile projects are expected to line up for the festive season.
The chosen date also carries personal significance for the veteran actor. Nagarjuna’s 2016 blockbuster ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ released on January 15 and went on to become one of the biggest hits of his career. Its sequel, ‘Bangarraju’, also arrived during the Sankranthi season in January 2022, further strengthening the association between the festival and the actor’s successful outings.
This has naturally fuelled speculation about whether the upcoming film could be connected to the ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ universe. While there has been no official confirmation, industry chatter suggests the project may reunite Nagarjuna with director Kalyan Krishna Kurasala, who helmed the earlier film. His possible involvement has only heightened anticipation around the announcement.
There is also talk within trade circles of a potential collaboration within the Akkineni family, with reports hinting that Naga Chaitanya could feature alongside Nagarjuna. However, the makers have not confirmed any casting details so far.
Meanwhile, Nagarjuna is simultaneously working on his much-anticipated 100th film, to be directed by Ra Karthik. Reports suggest that his sons Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni may be part of this milestone project as well, though official details are still awaited.
For now, with only the release date confirmed, fans will have to wait patiently for further announcements as Nagarjuna prepares to return to the Sankranthi box office in 2027.
