Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has expressed strong confidence in Aditya Dhar’s upcoming directorial ‘Dhurandhar 2’, stating that the film is poised to become the “largest multi-starrer in the history of cinema.” The sequel is scheduled to hit theatres in March and has already generated considerable buzz within the industry.
According to a PTI report, Varma shared his views while speaking about the scale and ambition of the project, underlining the sheer magnitude of its cast and storytelling. He described ‘Dhurandhar 2’ as a film that pushes boundaries not just in terms of narrative, but also in the way it brings together multiple powerhouse performers in a single cinematic universe.
The sequel follows the success of ‘Dhurandhar’, which released in December 2025 with Ranveer Singh in the lead role. The first film revolved around covert intelligence operations set against the backdrop of some of India’s most defining geopolitical and terror-related events, including the ‘Kandahar plane hijacking’, the ‘2001 Parliament attack’, and the ‘26/11 Mumbai terror attacks’. Its intense treatment of real-world incidents struck a chord with audiences and critics alike.
‘Dhurandhar’ also featured a formidable ensemble cast, including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, R Madhavan and Arjun Rampal, adding depth and gravitas to the narrative. The film’s layered storytelling and high-stakes drama laid the foundation for what many now expect to be an even more expansive sequel.
With ‘Dhurandhar 2’, Aditya Dhar is set to scale up both the story and its cinematic canvas, promising a film that builds on the original’s success while aiming higher in scope and impact. Varma’s endorsement has further fuelled anticipation, with fans and trade watchers keen to see whether the sequel lives up to its promise of redefining the multi-starrer format on an unprecedented scale.
