The third season of the TV9 Bangla Ghorer Bioscope Awards 2025 concluded in Kolkata with a grand and emotionally charged ceremony that celebrated iconic milestones and enduring legacies from Bengali and Bollywood cinema.
The flagship property of TV9 Bangla once again positioned itself as a platform that goes beyond awards, recognising excellence across films, OTT and television while paying homage to the artists who have shaped Indian cinema over decades.
According to a TV9 Press Release, this year’s edition stood out for its deeply rooted tributes to cinematic history. The ceremony honoured Bollywood’s ‘He-Man’ Dharmendra, remembered the unmatched acting brilliance of Santosh Dutta, marked 50 glorious years of the cult classic ‘Sholay’, and commemorated the centenary of Bengali cinema’s eternal Mahanayak, Uttam Kumar. Each tribute reflected the cultural influence and timeless appeal of these legends.
The evening opened on a nostalgic note with the iconic ‘Sholay’ song ‘Ye Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge’, brought alive through a special performance that highlighted the celebrated camaraderie of Abir and Parambrata, both on and off screen. This was followed by a high-energy act on ‘Mehbooba’, while mellifluous melodies from the golden era of the 1950s paid tribute to Uttam Kumar and Santosh Dutta. Adding further colour to the night were vibrant performances by Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, seamlessly blending nostalgia, exuberance and cinematic legacy. Special performances by Jazz City added to the evening’s grandeur and will soon be streamed on Sony LIV.
The awards recognised outstanding achievements across television and digital platforms. In television, ‘Parineeta’ (Zee Bangla) won Best TV Serial in the popular choice category, while ‘Parashuram Ajker Nayok’ (Star Jalsha) took the jury honour. Jeetu Kamal and Uday Pratap Singh were recognised as Best Actors, while Trina Saha and Aparajita Ghosh won top honours in the Best Actress categories. ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ and ‘Lakh Takar Lokkhi Labh’ were jointly awarded Best Non-Fiction Show.
In the web and OTT segment, ‘Puro Puri Eken’ emerged as Best Web Series, with Tota Roy Choudhury and Anirban Chakrabarti sharing Best Actor honours. Mimi Chakraborty won Best Actress for ‘Dainee’, while ‘Ei Raat Tomar Amaar’ stood out with wins for Best Cinema (OTT) and Best Director for Parambrata Chatterjee.
Special honours added emotional depth to the evening, with Ranjit Mallick receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award and Aparna Sen being conferred the Prothom Thekeyi Prothome Award. Jisshu U Sengupta received Special Recognition, while Laughtersane (Niranjan Mondal) was named Best Content Creator.
Reflecting on the significance of the platform, Barun Das, MD & CEO, TV9 Network, said, “The media industry today is facing the twin onslaught of AI and Gen Z. Yet, these changes also present unprecedented opportunities. Bengal has a rich cinematic legacy — from Hiralal Sen to Satyajit Ray — and we must draw inspiration from our past while learning from our mistakes. As a news network, TV9 will continue to act as a positive catalyst to help industry lead forward.”
Amritanshu Bhattacharya, Managing Editor & Business Head, TV9 Bangla, added, “TV9 Bangla Ghorer Bioscope Awards has carved a distinct identity in the realm of entertainment. While we report on conflicts and politics throughout the year, this platform celebrates the struggles, journeys, and eventual triumphs behind the silver screen. Ghorer Bioscope stands for recognising the success behind every challenge to life that is faced.”
The celebration will be telecast on TV9 Bangla on Sunday, 21 December, at 5.30pm, promising viewers an evening steeped in nostalgia, artistry and cinematic pride.
