The makers of ‘Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders’ have confirmed that the much-awaited crime thriller will premiere worldwide on Netflix on December 19, bringing Nawazuddin Siddiqui back in one of his most celebrated roles.
The announcement was made alongside a gripping teaser dropped on social media.
According to a UNI report, the film is set to arrive on the platform shortly after its world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, adding to the anticipation around its release.
Netflix shared the update on Instagram with the caption, “Inspector Jatil ka raat ke andhere se purana rishta hai, lekin Bansal Murders ka case aur bhi gehra hai. Watch Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, out 19 December, only on Netflix.” The teaser hints at a darker, more layered mystery, continuing the moody crime universe that audiences loved in the 2020 film.
Directed by Honey Trehan, the sequel once again centres on Inspector Jatil Yadav, the sharp, quietly intense investigator brought to life by Siddiqui. Set in Kanpur, the story follows the brutal massacre of an influential family inside their mansion. As Jatil navigates the crime scene, he finds himself entangled in a complex web of inheritance disputes, family rivalries, buried motives and long-hidden secrets.
Written by Smita Singh, the film expands the original’s world while introducing an entirely new ensemble of characters and conflicts. Unlike the first instalment, which revolved around a single murder, this chapter examines the ripple effects of a mass killing, delving deep into the unsettling truths masked by wealth and power.
The cast boasts a formidable lineup: Chitrangada Singh, Rajat Kapoor, Deepti Naval, Ila Arun, Revathy, Akhilendra Mishra, Priyanka Setia, Sanjay Kapoor, and Radhika Apte — who also starred in the 2020 film — appear alongside Siddiqui in pivotal roles.
The original ‘Raat Akeli Hai’ earned widespread praise for its atmospheric storytelling, strong performances, and the compelling character of Inspector Jatil Yadav. With heightened stakes and a broader narrative canvas, The Bansal Murders promises to deliver another tense, immersive crime drama.
‘Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders’ will stream exclusively on Netflix from December 19.
