Director Krish Thirukumaran’s much-anticipated action entertainer ‘Retta Thala’, starring actor Arun Vijay in a double role, is all set to hit theatres worldwide on December 18, the makers have officially announced.
The film has been generating strong buzz among fans and trade circles, particularly for showcasing Arun Vijay in two contrasting avatars in what promises to be an intense, high-octane thriller.
According to an IANS report, Retta Thala delves into the complex shades of human nature, exploring what happens when the grey areas within individuals collide. Speaking earlier to the news agency, Arun Vijay shared insights into the film, saying, “Retta Thala is a gripping action thriller that will be about what happens when the shades of grey in all individuals start to show simultaneously.”
A teaser released recently gave audiences a glimpse into the adrenaline-charged narrative and the two characters played by the actor. One of them, named Malpe Upendra, was introduced in the teaser, while Arun Vijay later revealed that his second character is called Kali. The actor also spoke about the physical challenges of taking on dual roles, particularly as he was recovering from a severe ACL tear sustained during the making of his previous film, Vanangaan.
“We had released only one character’s name in the teaser. The other character I play is Kali,” he said, adding that the physically demanding nature of the film made it one of his toughest performances to date. “Bala sir wanted me to have a flabby look for Vanangaan, so I didn’t work out for almost a year and a half. I also suffered serious injuries including an ACL tear in my left knee. However, director Kris Thirukumaran was very supportive. He allowed me to recover and train by shooting the talkie portions first.”
The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast featuring Siddhi Idnani, Tanya Ravichandran, Yogi Samy, John Vijay, Hareesh Peradi, and Balaji Murugadoss in significant roles. Known for his keen sense of commercial storytelling, director Krish Thirukumaran appears to have crafted an emotionally layered yet high-energy narrative, designed to spotlight Arun Vijay’s versatility as a performer.
Retta Thala also brings together a strong technical crew. The music is composed by Sam CS, with Tijo Tomy handling cinematography and Anthony serving as the editor. The film’s art direction is by Arunshankar Durai, while P.C. Stunts has choreographed the action sequences that are said to be among the highlights of the film. Costume design has been done by Kiruthika Sekar, while Suren R and Bobby Antony have choreographed the songs.
With its gripping premise, powerful performances, and a technically rich production, Retta Thala promises to be a full-fledged action spectacle that will test both the physical and emotional limits of its lead star.
