OpenAI has appointed Vasundhara Mudgil to lead its communications in India, marking a key leadership addition as the company expands its footprint in one of its largest global markets.
Mudgil announced her new role on LinkedIn, following a successful seven-year tenure at Spotify India, where she led communications and played a pivotal role in shaping the platform’s brand narrative in the country.
This move marks Mudgil’s third country-level communications leadership role, having previously helmed communication strategies for both Spotify and Intel India. Over her 17-year career, she has also spent more than seven years at Genesis Burson Marsteller (now Burson), where she worked across corporate, technology, and consumer mandates.
Her appointment comes at a crucial time as OpenAI strengthens its India operations, with the country emerging as its second-largest user base after the United States. The company has been actively building its local leadership team, with recent hires including Pragya Misra as Strategy Lead, Akash Iyer as Social Lead, and Sheeladitya Mohanty as Head of Marketing.
OpenAI’s growing focus on India includes opening a new office in Delhi, launching its most affordable subscription plan globally, and offering free access to ChatGPT Go for a year to eligible users. With Mudgil’s appointment, the company looks to further solidify its brand presence and communication strategy in one of the world’s most dynamic technology markets.
