Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is all set to headline Paramount Pictures’ upcoming feature film ‘Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol’, a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ timeless festive tale.
The film, directed by Ti West—best known for his acclaimed horror trilogy ‘X’ (2022), ‘Pearl’ (2022) and ‘MaXXXine’ (2024)—will see Depp take on the iconic role of Ebenezer Scrooge, the cold-hearted businessman who undergoes a supernatural transformation on Christmas Eve. The screenplay is written by Nathaniel Halpern, according to a PTI report quoting Variety.
Set for a worldwide theatrical release on November 13, 2026, the movie will also feature actress Andrea Riseborough, known for her performances in ‘Oblivion’ and ‘To Leslie’. The story reimagines Dickens’ classic character, following Scrooge’s encounters with the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future as he is forced to confront the consequences of his greed and indifference.
Depp joins a long line of actors who have portrayed the character of Scrooge in earlier adaptations including Alastair Sim in the 1951 classic ‘Scrooge’, Bill Murray in the 1988 dark comedy ‘Scrooged’, Michael Caine in ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ (1992), and Jim Carrey in the 2009 animated retelling ‘A Christmas Carol.’
The upcoming film is produced by Emma Watts, with Stephen Deuters and Jason Forman serving as executive producers. Combining Ti West’s distinctive storytelling with Depp’s powerful screen presence, ‘Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol’ is expected to bring a fresh cinematic take on one of literature’s most enduring Christmas stories.
