David Lang, one of the most influential figures in WPP Media, has announced his departure after 20 years, marking the end of an era in content-driven marketing.
Lang, who built the Mindshare Content team—formerly Mindshare Entertainment—from the ground up, played a pivotal role in shaping the agency’s creative and branded content capabilities. Under his leadership, the team produced more than 1,200 projects, achieving a 91 percent client return rate.
Reflecting on his journey, Lang said, “I am so grateful and appreciative for the opportunity to go on this amazing ride and wanted to take a moment to celebrate the amazing work and people I’ve gotten to collaborate with over the past two decades. I had the privilege of building the Mindshare Content team under the best boss a person could ever ask for – Peter Tortorici. Our team always operated as a family with relationships that transcended a workplace environment.”
Among his standout projects were the digital series In the MotherHood—the first online series to cross over into primetime broadcast television—collaborations with Steph Curry, filming with Karl Lagerfeld in Paris, and a content series with Marisa Tomei in Italy. He also credited longtime collaborators like Rob Master, who greenlit Mindshare’s first major project, Dove Calming Nights.
Over the years, Lang held multiple leadership roles including Chief Creative and Experiences Officer at GroupM North America, Chair of the GroupM Center of Excellence on Content, and Chief Content Officer, NA, at Mindshare.
As he steps into his next chapter, Lang remains optimistic: “What’s next? I’m very happy to already be exploring new opportunities and collaborations. I am beyond excited for what’s on the horizon!!”
