Meta is taking another leap in breaking language barriers by introducing AI-powered voice translations for Reels on Instagram and Facebook. The new feature automatically dubs videos into other languages, syncing lip movements to create a natural multilingual experience.
Announcing the update on Instagram, Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, said, “We’re bringing Meta AI voice translations for Reels to more people on Instagram and Facebook, starting with English ↔ Spanish and more languages coming soon. We’re excited about the potential for this to help your content reach new audiences who speak other languages.”
The tool uses advanced AI technology to analyze and translate spoken words in Reels, reproducing them in the creator’s own voice while lip syncing for authenticity. Once enabled, creators can review and approve the translated version before posting, while viewers will automatically see Reels in their preferred language setting. They can also opt out of translations if they wish.
For now, the feature is available to all Instagram public accounts and Facebook creators with over 1,000 followers. On Facebook, creators can turn on the feature while uploading Reels by selecting “Translate your voice with Meta AI” before publishing. A label will notify viewers that the content has been translated using Meta AI.
Meta has also rolled out new analytics features, allowing creators to measure how their content is performing across different languages. In addition, creators producing multilingual content manually can now upload up to 20 self-translated audio tracks for a single Reel via the Meta Business Suite.
To ensure accuracy, Meta has advised creators to keep translations face-to-camera, avoid excessive background noise, and maintain consistency to build new audiences in other languages. Currently, translations are limited to English ↔ Spanish, but more languages will be added soon as part of Meta’s larger plan to help creators grow global followings.
