Eastern India’s homegrown OTT platform AAO NXT is set to release its much-anticipated Odia film ‘Trushna’ on July 24. Written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Suresh Patnaik and produced by Naveen Bhandari of Amara Studios, the film is a poignant exploration of the emotional and artistic struggles of individuals caught between dreams and societal expectations.
Set in a world increasingly driven by material ambition, ‘Trushna’ takes the audience into the inner lives of four characters chasing creative fulfilment. Told in an anthology format, the film weaves stories of aspiration, self-expression, and heartbreak with striking simplicity. The narrative delves into the silences, sacrifices, and subtle triumphs that define the journey of many artists navigating an unsympathetic world.
As highlighted in the official report by AAO NXT, ‘Trushna’ features a talented cast including Suresh Patnaik, Sailendra Samantaray, Jyoti Prakash Panda, Abhishek Giri, Suryamayee Mahapatra and Lipsa Mishra. The soulful music, composed by Amara Music, adds emotional depth, elevating the film’s already rich storytelling.
The film has already made a mark on the festival circuit, bagging six awards at the 33rd Odisha State Film Awards (2021). These include Best Director, Best Music Director, Best Singer (Male), Best Costume, Best Supporting Actor (Male) and Best Film for Wholesome Entertainment — a testament to its artistic merit and wide appeal.
Speaking about the film’s premiere, Kaushik Das, Founder & CEO of AAO NXT, said, “‘Trushna’ is not just a film, it’s a reflection of the artistic spirit that often goes unheard in the mainstream. At AAO NXT, we are committed to bringing such powerful and original narratives to the forefront, especially those rooted in regional voices. This story is for anyone who has dared to dream differently.”
