The sequel to the beloved 2012 rom-com ‘Cocktail’ is officially in the pipeline, and the makers have kickstarted preparations for the much-anticipated follow-up. The buzz intensified after Anaita Shroff Adajania celebrity stylist and wife of director Homi Adajania posted a glimpse of the ‘Cocktail 2’ script on her Instagram story on Saturday, captioning it, “Let the prep begin.”
As per ANI, the announcement has stirred excitement among fans who’ve long awaited a continuation of the breezy-yet-emotional tale that starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty. While details about the sequel’s storyline or production timeline remain tightly under wraps, early reports suggest that Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna are being considered for the lead roles.
Homi Adajania, who directed the original film under the banner of Illuminati Films, has not yet made an official statement on the new cast or release date. However, the visible movement on pre-production hints that shooting could begin in the coming months.
Kriti Sanon, who is reportedly one of the top contenders for the lead in Cocktail 2, recently wrapped up filming for ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ a spiritual successor to ‘Raanjhanaa’, directed by Aanand L Rai and co-starring Dhanush. The film is slated for release on November 28, 2025, with music by A.R. Rahman and lyrics by Irshad Kamil.
On the other hand, Rashmika Mandanna, another rumoured lead for the sequel, is fresh off her recent film ‘Kuberaa’ alongside Dhanush and Nagarjuna and has several projects lined up. She will next be seen in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Animal’ ‘Park’ and a newly announced action thriller titled ‘Mysaa’.
Shahid Kapoor, also reportedly approached for the sequel, was last seen in the action thriller ‘Deva’, directed by Rosshan Andrrews.
Originally released in 2012, ‘Cocktail’ explored the dynamics of love and friendship with a modern, urban sensibility that struck a chord with younger audiences. Deepika Padukone’s portrayal of the free-spirited Veronica earned her widespread acclaim and marked a turning point in her career.
While fans await further updates on casting and filming, the mere confirmation of ‘Cocktail 2’ has set the stage for another round of heart, humour, and heartbreak — wrapped in signature style.
