Sports writer & journo Boria Majumdar joins NDTV

NDTV has announced the appointment of celebrated sports journalist Boria Majumdar as Consulting Editor. Known for his sharp insight, unrivalled access, and two-decade-long career chronicling India’s sporting history, Majumdar brings with him a compelling vision that blends sport with national identity, diplomacy, and deep cultural narratives.

According to an official press release from NDTV, the network’s new editorial collaboration with Boria marks more than just a change in personnel. It signals a fundamental shift in how sport will be covered — not merely as performance or spectacle, but as a reflection of India’s evolving global aspirations. “This is a new NDTV,” says Boria, “And I have been working on building a very new kind of Indian sports media narrative — one that breaks format, that gives Olympic and Paralympic sports their rightful place. It’s bold, and it’s overdue.”

A Rhodes Scholar, founder of Revsportz, and one of the most respected voices in Indian sports media, Boria Majumdar has authored multiple bestsellers, including Playing It My Way, the official autobiography of Sachin Tendulkar — one of India’s top-selling sports books. His reporting spans multiple Cricket World Cups and Olympic Games, with exclusive interviews from every Indian cricket captain since Sourav Ganguly. NDTV’s move to bring him on board is seen as a serious editorial investment into creating more layered, meaningful sports coverage that delves into issues of equity, infrastructure, grassroots ecosystems, and governance.

“This partnership is about going beyond match results,” said Rahul Kanwal, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, NDTV. “Boria Majumdar is the most high-impact sports journalist in the industry today. His depth of knowledge and nuanced understanding of the world of sports are truly exceptional. At NDTV, we’re excited to collaborate with Boria to deliver high-quality sports reportage, in-depth analysis, and marquee events.”

With India looking ahead to key global milestones — the 2026 T20 World Cup, FIFA World Cup qualifications, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, and its ambition to host the 2036 Games — Boria’s addition comes at a time when the country’s sporting story is rapidly evolving. He emphasises that sport is not just about entertainment. “It is identity. It is culture. It is diplomacy. It’s where a nation stands when the anthem plays. At NDTV, the idea is to bring that lens to every report. To go deeper. To connect the dots. And to ask better questions.”

The new NDTV sports editorial will also focus on emerging disciplines, women’s sports, the Paralympic movement, and untold stories from India’s sporting grassroots. As Boria steps into this role, viewers can expect bold conversations, ground-breaking exclusives, and storytelling that aims to reframe sport not as a sidebar, but as central to India’s growth and global image.
