Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios have officially announced their next major venture in adult animation with ‘Mister Miracle’, an emotionally intense and psychologically layered series based on the Eisner Award-winning graphic novel by writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads.

The announcement was made during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, underlining Warner Bros.’ ongoing efforts to elevate adult-themed animated storytelling.

As reported by UNI, ‘Mister Miracle’ marks the second adult-focused animation from the studio, following James Gunn’s ‘Creature Commandos’, which is currently in production for its second season. This series forms part of a broader slate of animated titles recently ordered by DC Studios, including ‘Starfire!’, ‘My Adventures with Green Lantern’, and ‘DC Super Powers’.

Tom King, who penned the original comic, will serve as executive producer and showrunner on the new adaptation, which is currently in production. The show follows the story of Scott Free, known as Mister Miracle, a legendary escape artist whose idyllic life with his warrior wife Big Barda is thrown into chaos when an intergalactic war breaks out between New Genesis and Apokolips. At the center of the conflict is Scott’s adoptive father, the tyrannical Darkseid, who claims to possess the terrifying Anti-Life Equation — a force capable of erasing free will and enslaving all sentient life.

As Scott attempts to prevent a cosmic genocide, he must also confront a personal battle — the growing suspicion that the Anti-Life Equation might already be influencing his mind. The series promises a powerful exploration of trauma, identity, and love as Scott struggles to preserve his family and sense of self amid collapsing realities.

The series is described by the creators as “harrowing, hilarious, and heart-wrenching” — a raw and resonant journey through the ordinary and the extraordinary. It’s a tale where the son of a god raised by the devil must risk everything to protect not just his universe, but the fragile peace he’s found in love.

‘Mister Miracle’s’ network distribution is still under negotiation, but its high-profile unveiling at Annecy signals a strong push by Warner Bros. to stake its ground in the adult animation space. With the involvement of celebrated creators and a deep, character-driven narrative, the project is already generating buzz as one of the most ambitious animated adaptations in recent memory.
