As the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 gears up to welcome millions of devotees to Prayagraj, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued directives to telecom operators to ensure robust and seamless connectivity during the grand event.
With the Maha Kumbh being the largest religious gathering globally, this initiative aims to provide uninterrupted communication services amidst the anticipated massive footfall.
According to a PIB release, the extensive demand for connectivity, leading telecom operators—Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and BSNL—have already undertaken extensive upgrades. A total of 575 new Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) have been installed, and 1,462 existing units have been upgraded across Prayagraj city. Additionally, 126 km of optical fiber has been laid, while 328 new towers and masts have been erected, significantly strengthening the city’s telecom infrastructure.
