Zee Cinema is set to broadcast the world television premiere of ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’ on Sunday, March 24 at 12 pm.
Directed by Ashima Chibber and featuring Rani Mukerji in the lead role, the film portrays the real-life saga of a mother’s relentless pursuit to reunite with her children, who were separated by Norwegian authorities.
The movie, which also stars Jim Sarbh, Neena Gupta, and Anirban Bhattacharya in significant roles, has received widespread acclaim for its powerful storyline and stellar performances. Rani Mukerji’s portrayal of the determined mother earned her accolades at prestigious award ceremonies such as the Zee Cine Awards and Filmfare.
Expressing her sentiments about the film, Mukerji stated, “For me, ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’ is not just a film; it’s an emotional journey that reflects the resilience of a mother’s love. The aim was to bring Sagarika’s story on celluloid through Debika’s character and to make the audience experience the pain that a mother went through when she was separated from her children.”
Director Ashima Chibber emphasized the universality of the film’s theme, stating, “How can separating a child from her mother be an option? How can anyone think of it as an option?… As a director, ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’ has been a labor of love, a story close to my heart that celebrates the impossible spirit of a mother.”
Based on a true incident, the film chronicles the ordeal of Indian immigrant Debika Chatterjee (Rani Mukerji), who faces the daunting task of reclaiming her children after they are taken away due to allegations of improper parenting. The charges against her, including trivial reasons like sleeping in the same bed and hand-feeding her kids, raise questions about her fitness as a mother.
‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’ promises to be a gripping narrative that delves into the complexities of maternal love and the fight against injustice. Viewers can anticipate an emotional and compelling journey as Debika battles against all odds to reunite with her children, highlighting the indomitable spirit of motherhood.
