Microsoft has confirmed the recruitment of former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and former President Greg Brockman, marking a notable addition to its team.
This move follows Altman’s recent departure from OpenAI and heralds a new chapter in advanced AI research at Microsoft.
Altman, ousted from his position at OpenAI, is set to join Microsoft, as announced by the tech giant. Alongside him, Greg Brockman will spearhead a new advanced AI research team within Microsoft, signaling a strategic shift in the company’s AI endeavors.
The announcement of Altman and Brockman’s appointment, as well as the introduction of OpenAI’s new leadership, came through a tweet by Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. Nadella reiterated Microsoft’s commitment to its partnership with OpenAI and expressed confidence in their product roadmap and innovation, reaffirming support for customers and partners.
The decision to part ways with Altman was initiated by OpenAI, the pioneering company behind ChatGPT. The board of OpenAI officially cited a loss of confidence in Altman’s leadership capabilities at the Microsoft-backed AI firm.
While acknowledging Altman’s contributions to OpenAI’s inception and growth, the board emphasized the necessity for new leadership in driving the company forward.
Following Altman’s departure, the reins of OpenAI will transition to Emmett Shear, the former CEO of Twitch, who is slated to assume the role of the company’s new Chief Executive Officer.
The move signifies a strategic realignment in the leadership landscape of both Microsoft and OpenAI, setting the stage for renewed advancements and innovative strides in the field of artificial intelligence.
