As expected, broadcast and telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended implementation of New Regulatory Framework 2020 for broadcast sector, popularly known as NTO 2.0, by three months till November 30 for broadcasters, while for other stakeholders too it has been pushed back.
“Keeping in view the ongoing consultation process and requests received from the stakeholders for extension of timelines for implementation of New Regulatory Framework 2020, it has been decided to extend the deadlines,” TRAI said in a statement Thursday.
Now, therefore, all the broadcasters shall report to the Authority any change in name, nature, language, monthly MRP of TV channels, and composition and MRP of bouquets of channels November 30, 2022.
Simultaneously, TRAI said, the broadcasters should publish such information on their websites. The broadcasters who have already submitted their RIOs in compliance of the New Regulatory Framework 2020 may also revise their RIOs by November end.
Further, all DPOs shall report to the Authority distributor retail price of pay channels and bouquets of pay channels and composition of bouquets of pay and FTA channels, as per the New Regulatory Framework 2020 by December 31, 2022 , and simultaneously publish such information on their websites.
DPOs who have already submitted their RIOs in compliance of the New Regulatory Framework 2020 may also revise their RIOs by December end.
All the distributors of television channels shall ensure that services to the subscribers, with effect from February 28, 2023, are provided as per the bouquets or channels opted by them.
The earlier deadline for broadcasters to submit details under NTO 2.0 was August 31, 2022.
An Open House Discussion on the tariff issues, which was scheduled to be held on July 21, has now been rescheduled on September 8, 2022.
