Sony AATH’s cooking reality show ‘Raandhuni Na Kaanduni’ is set to bring the traditional ghoti-bangal (natives of West Bengal vs. migrants from East Bengal, which is now called Bangladesh) rivalry into the kitchen, along with unexpected team swaps and a high-stakes elimination.
The upcoming episodes will combine Bengali food, friendly competition and personal chemistry as contestants take on challenges that put both their culinary skills and teamwork to the test, a press release from the entertainment channel stated.
The ghoti vs. bangal episode begins with a mystery-bag challenge before the contestants take on some popular Bengali favourites. As the two teams compete to prove which side has the edge, the friendly rivalry soon spills into the kitchen.
Kanchan Mullick and Sreemoyee Chattoraj Mullick also find themselves at the centre of the ghoti-bangal equation, bringing their real-life dynamic and plenty of banter to the episode.
The episode also explores the idea of soul food and the memories attached to dishes that remind people of home. With food at the heart of the rivalry, the contestants will have to balance the emotional side of the challenge with the pressure of competing for points.
The competition takes another turn in the following episode when a ‘Swap’ challenge separates familiar partners and pairs contestants with new teammates.
A mystery bag, featuring pasta, sets the challenge in motion, followed by a Soya Galouti Kebab challenge. With new partners beside them, the contestants have to quickly adapt to different working styles and establish kitchen chemistry.
The pressure increases as the scores from the swap challenge are added to the teams’ existing tallies. The lowest-scoring team then faces the elimination round, turning what initially appears to be a fun change of partners into a serious test of teamwork and performance.
Talking about the ghoti-bangal challenge, Mullick said, “The ghoti-bangal theme was especially fun because food is such an emotional part of both identities. Add a little competition to it and things get interesting! Working with Sreemoyee is always different because we know each other so well, so the banter comes naturally.
“But when it comes to teams and cooking, we don’t let that equation get in the way of the competition.”
Chattoraj Mullick added, “What made this episode so much fun was how naturally the rivalry came into the cooking. Food brings back so many memories and emotions.”
Host Ankush Hazra said, “The beauty of this show is that you never know when a simple cooking challenge will turn into something much bigger.
But the biggest moment is the elimination. That is when everyone realises that the fun and games also come with a real sense of competition.”
‘Raandhuni Na Kaanduni’ airs Monday to Friday at 8pm on Sony AATH and Sony LIV.
