Subhajit Sengupta has returned to Times Network as Vice President and Head of Social Media and Video Monetisation, taking charge of the network’s social media and video revenue operations from its Noida office. Sengupta announced his return in September 2026, describing the move as a homecoming with a wider mandate.
Sengupta joins Times Network after spending more than two years at HT Digital Streams, where he served as Head of Video and Social Media from June 2024 to August 2026. In the role, he oversaw the video business and its revenue through programmatic and IP-led monetisation, while driving cross-platform content growth across Hindustan Times, Mint, Hindustan and other group platforms.
According to a press release, Sengupta also led an AI-first transformation at HT Digital Streams, integrating generative AI tools into editorial workflows. His responsibilities covered YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, connected TV and emerging video formats, while he led a cross-functional team of more than 80 professionals across social, editorial and video revenue.
This is Sengupta’s second stint with Times Network. He first joined the organisation in November 2021 as Group Lead, Digital Videos and Social Media and was promoted to Associate Vice President, Digital Video Strategy, in October 2023.
During his earlier tenure, Sengupta headed digital video operations across Times Now, ET Now, ET Now Swadesh, Times Now Navbharat, Mirror Now, TN World, Sports Now and TN+. He led a team of content creators, optimisers and growth professionals, with digital video revenue increasing threefold during his tenure.
He also oversaw social media strategy and operations across YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and LinkedIn, while leading the network’s #AIInNewsroom initiative focused on introducing AI-led solutions into newsroom workflows.
Sengupta brings more than 18 years of experience across journalism, digital video, social media and content leadership. His journalism career began as a freelancer with Sakaal Media Group in Pune between 2006 and 2008. He subsequently spent nearly nine years with CNN-IBN, where he held roles including Associate Editor, Special Correspondent and Bureau Chief for the North-East in Guwahati.
He later served as Delhi Bureau Chief at CNN-News18, Editor of Special Projects at News18.com and Deputy Group Head, Digital Videos, at Network18 Media & Investments Limited.
His reporting career has also been recognised with the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism for his conflict reporting.
Sengupta’s return comes at a time when social platforms, short-form video and connected TV are playing an increasingly important role in news consumption and digital monetisation. His experience across editorial, platform strategy, audience growth and revenue gives Times Network a leadership profile that combines content expertise with commercial understanding.
The appointment signals Times Network’s continued focus on strengthening video and social media as core components of its digital growth and revenue strategy, while marking Sengupta’s return to the network with a broader mandate than his previous role.
