India Today Originals has been declared the National Winner in the ‘Best Documentary History’ category at the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA) 2026 for Episode 2 of its five-part documentary series India Today@50.
Titled ‘Era of Identity, Insurgency & Terror’, the award-winning episode covers the decade between 1985 and 1995 and examines a defining period in India’s contemporary history, marked by complex issues surrounding identity, insurgency and terrorism.
According to a press release, the five-part documentary series was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the India Today Group. The series looks at five decades of India’s journey, tracing key events and developments that have shaped the country over the years.
The National Winner recognition places India Today@50 at the top of its category at the national level in India and qualifies the documentary to represent the country at the regional competition of the Asian Academy Creative Awards.
The recognition comes as the India Today Group marks five decades of journalism and strengthens its focus on documentary storytelling. Through India Today@50, India Today Originals revisits significant moments from the country’s past while examining their wider social and political context.
The series aims to present the events and developments that have shaped India with greater depth and clarity, offering viewers a broader understanding of the country’s evolving journey across five decades.
