The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has ruled in favour of Hathway Digital in a dispute involving 194 set-top boxes (STBs) supplied to West Bengal-based cable operator Jagat Gouri Cable Net.

According to a TDSAT judgment,the tribunal has directed Jagat Gouri Cable Net to return all 194 STBs and their accessories to Hathway in good working condition within two months. If the equipment is not returned, the cable operator will have to pay around Rs 2.64 lakh, along with 9 percent annual simple interest.

The dispute arose after Hathway alleged that Jagat Gouri Cable Net had replaced its STBs with equipment supplied by another multi-system operator, Saptak Digital.

Hathway had initially sought around Rs 2.92 lakh for the 194 STBs. However, TDSAT assessed the value of the equipment after applying depreciation and fixed the value at Rs 1,360 per STB.

The tribunal held Jagat Gouri Cable Net responsible for the STBs and did not hold Saptak Digital liable in the matter.The order was passed on August 20, 2026.
