News18 Bangla’s ground reporting on the condition of government hospital quarters in rural West Bengal has drawn the attention of the state Health Department and Health Minister Dr Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay.
The channel reported on the government’s plan to provide new air conditioned accommodation for doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers posted in rural areas. Its district correspondents visited different parts of Bengal and reported on the poor and inadequate condition of existing government hospital quarters.
According to News18 Bangla, the ground reports and footage helped highlight the challenges faced by healthcare workers and brought the issue into focus within the state health department. The coverage has also been appreciated by the state government’s Health Department.
The development is part of News18 Bangla’s renewed focus on ground-based journalism under its “Newsroom to Action” approach. The channel aims to focus on public issues through deeper ground reporting and stories that can create an impact beyond the immediate news cycle.
News18 Bangla has also strengthened its editorial team, with Raja Chatterjee as Editor, News18 Bangla, Anirban Sinha as Editor Output, and Kamalika Sengupta representing CNN-News18 in the East.
Dhrubajyoti Pramanik, Managing Editor, Network18, said journalism should not only report events but also bring important issues to the public and policymakers. He added that the channel’s renewed approach aims to strengthen ground reporting and contribute to meaningful change.
