India is at an inflection point where technology is creating opportunities for every citizen and driving transformation, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said yesterday, adding that the country is on track to connect 100 crore people to 5G by 2030 after having connected nearly 50 crore users in just two-and-a-half years.

According to a PTI report from New Delhi, the minister also said that India’s first telecom manufacturing zone (TMZ) will come up in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

“You all heard about SEZs…now the world will hear about a TMZ — an ecosystem only for the telecom sector, for data centres, for chip manufacturers, where we are putting in place a full plug-and-play system between the government of Madhya Pradesh and the government of India,” Scindia said at an event in New Delhi on India Mobile Congress 2026 theme launch.

Meanwhile, as per a government statement put out yesterday, accessed by Indianbroadcastingworld.com, as Scindia unveiled ‘Scale without Boundaries’ as the theme for the 10th edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, he said the country aims to take technologies, standards and solutions developed in India to markets across the world.

The 10th edition of Asia’s largest digital technology forum will be held from October 7 to 10 in New Delhi. Organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the event will bring together global and Indian technology companies, telecom operators, policymakers, startups, investors and researchers.

“The theme of the 10th India Mobile Congress, ‘Scale Without Boundaries’, reflects our ambition to ensure that the technologies we build, the standards we shape and the solutions we create in India reach new markets, communities and possibilities across the world,” Scindia said.

He added that India was “no longer only a market for technology” but was increasingly becoming “a nation that designs, develops and scales technology for the world”, citing indigenous telecom technologies, 6G standards and digital public platforms.

The event will be built around four pillars — Srishti (Building the Future), Suraksha (Strengthening Trust), Sashakt (Expanding Opportunities) and Sankalp (Driving Sustainable Growth) — reflecting India’s vision of a digitally empowered, secure and growth-oriented future.

It will showcase technologies including 5G, 6G, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, cloud and edge computing, satellite communications, electronics manufacturing, quantum technologies and green technologies.

Marking a decade of India Mobile Congress, the 2026 edition aims to build on the platform’s role in fostering innovation, collaboration and global engagement.
