Marvel unveils ‘Ghost Rider’, names new Black Panther at Comic-Con

Marvel Studios used its Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 to announce a new ‘Ghost Rider’ film starring Ryan Gosling, reveal David Jonsson as the new Black Panther in ‘Black Panther 3’, and showcase fresh footage from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

The studio, according to a Disney press release, also confirmed release dates for several upcoming films, with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to hit theatres on December 18, 2026, while ‘Ghost Rider’ and ‘Black Panther 3’ are slated for 2028.

The Disney announcements came on July 25 at the Comic-Con 2026 being held at San Diego in the US from July 23-26.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige led the Hall H presentation, which featured a star-studded panel for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo were joined by cast members, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, James Marsden, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer and Hayley Atwell, who confirmed her return as Peggy Carter.

Fans were also shown exclusive footage from the film and were given Doctor Doom masks and cloaks during the presentation.

Marvel also officially announced ‘Ghost Rider’, with Ryan Gosling set to star and Shawn Levy directing. Jonathan Tropper is writing the screenplay for the film, which is scheduled for a 2028 theatrical release.

Another surprise came with actor Jon Bernthal’s appearance to discuss his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ film. The audience was shown an exclusive preview of the Sony Pictures flick, which is due in theatres later this week on July 31.

The Disney presentation concluded with acclaimed filmmaker-writer-director Ryan Coogler confirming his return to direct ‘Black Panther 3’.

Joined on stage by Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, Coogler announced that the film will release on December 15, 2028, before revealing Jonsson as the new Black Panther in what Disney described as a “surprising and emotional moment”.
