The Walt Disney Company will premiere on its streaming platform a new feature-length documentary on legendary actor, singer and author Julie Andrews in 2027, with acclaimed filmmaker R.J. Cutler acting as the director and one of the producers in the project.

An official title for the documentary will be revealed at a later date.

The documentary is billed as a definitive portrait of Andrews, tracing her journey from her early days in British vaudeville to becoming an international star.

According to a Disney statement on July 22, the film will explore her career and personal life through rare, previously unseen archival footage and new interviews, highlighting a story shaped by resilience, reinvention and enduring grace.

The film will also offer a behind-the-scenes look at the woman behind performances in ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘The Princess Diaries’, focusing on the challenges she overcame alongside her artistic achievements.

“Julie Andrews is not simply a beloved performer. She is a cultural touchstone,” Cutler said, adding that the documentary explores “the extraordinary challenges she’s had to overcome throughout her life.”

He said Andrews shared her story openly during the filmmaking process, allowing the team to present a more personal portrait beyond her public image.

The documentary is produced by This Machine, part of Sony Pictures Television. Alongside directing, Cutler serves as a producer with Trevor Smith, Elise Pearlstein, Jane Cha Cutler and Jonathan Ruane, while Mark Blatty is the executive producer.

Disney said the project will stream globally on Disney+ in 2027, with additional details, including the documentary’s title, to be announced later.
