Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday said the Centre’s large-scale investments in wind, solar and battery storage systems will help reduce electricity costs in the coming years.

According to a Times Network press release yesterday from Delhi , speaking at the Adani Presents Times Network Sustainability Conclave 2026, co-powered by MAHATRANSCO, in New Delhi, Joshi said India became the world’s second-largest country in battery capacity additions last year. He said the government’s strong focus on renewable energy and battery storage will soon make electricity more affordable.

“We are investing heavily in battery storage systems with a strong focus on wind, solar and storage. The results will be seen soon, and it will help reduce the cost of electricity,” he said.

Highlighting India’s economic resilience, Joshi said the country has remained strong despite global uncertainties and the conflict in West Asia.

He added that India achieved its target of meeting 60 percent of its energy commitments in 2025, five years ahead of schedule, and is now committed to reducing its emission intensity by 47 percent by 2035.

Referring to India’s first hydrogen-powered train, the minister said it places the country among a select group of nations investing in next-generation clean transportation technologies and reflects India’s growing focus on sustainable innovation.

During the session ‘Financing India’s Green Economy’, International Finance Corporation (IFC) South Asia Regional Head of Operations and Climate Change Shalabh Tandon said global investors remain positive about India’s green growth story.

However, he noted that currency volatility has become a key concern, with foreign investors seeking hedging and swap mechanisms. He added that the World Bank Group is working with the Government of India and regulators to address these risks.

The conclave also featured a video message from Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who said the state is adding around 1.1 lakh hectares of forest area every year through the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.

The day-long conclave, themed ‘India 2035: A Self-Reliant Nation’, brought together policymakers, industry leaders and sustainability advocates, including Shriya Pilgaonkar and Adah Sharma, to discuss renewable energy, green finance, technological innovation and citizen participation in building a sustainable future.
