1,749 registered MSOs as on Nov-21; 6 registrations cancelled in Oct.

1,749 registered MSOs as on Nov-21; 6 registrations cancelled in Oct.

The Indian government has said that operations of 118 MSOs have got shuttered due to various reasons, including cancellation of registrations, till November 2021. Seven such closures came during October and the first day of this month.

Maharashtra States’ MSO Satellite reception center, which had operations in the Sindhudurg district, got the registration cancelled by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on November 1, 2021 as it was non-operational.

Paramount Cable Network, with operations in the Burdwan district of West Bengal, was shuttered in October  as the proprietor passed away due to COVID-19 complications. The application for registration was made in 2019.

SSCN Digital TV and Broadband in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh was treated as a closed case as the partnership firm got dissolved. The registration application was made earlier this year in February.

Meanwhile, MIB has also put out data relating to the total number of registered MSOs in the country that now number 1,749 as of November 2021.

Nine MSOs were given permission in the month of October 2021 to start operations.

Interestingly, among the MSOs greenlit during October month, there is Sen Network that was given permission to start operations in Srinagar.

All registrations are valid for a period of 10 years and all registered MSOs, unless indicated in registration order specifically, can operate anywhere in India once cleared by the government.
